Insular Life Volunteers Participate in 2017 World Bamboo Day

The Insular Life volunteers participated in the Kawayanihan 2017, a community bamboo planting project, organized by the Allan Cristobal (ALC) Foundation, Inc. for the World Bamboo Day. Twenty eight (28) employees joined the bamboo planting activity dubbed as Camp Kawayan at San Mateo, Rizal alongside 4,000 other participants from the local government, communities, academic institutions, and other corporate partners.

The first of its kind in the country, Camp Kawayan is a fun way of planting bamboos. Insular Foundation sponsored six groups of 4-5 participants and 75 bamboo saplings to be able to help re-green the beneficiary community as well as prevent soil erosion. Despite the rain and the early morning call time, employees from the Alabang and Makati offices volunteered their time for this worthy cause. Each group went through five stations to do certain activities in order to plant bamboos. The volunteers wrote their names and pledges in a tag for their plant, used bamboo sticks and bamboo shovels to plant at their designated planting site, took selfies or groupies of the planting activity and shared their photos and videos on their social media sites.  Over 5,000 bamboo saplings were planted that day at the riverside of Dulong Bayan, San Mateo Rizal.

Bamboo is an eco-friendly alternative for many everyday products.  Camp Kawayan aims to raise awareness of the benefits of bamboo and to encourage community bamboo planting and growing as a way of climate change mitigation.
